Marcia X

Born and raised in Chicago, IL to immigrant parents, Marcia X explores themes relating to the experience of the Diaspora, history, feminism, politics and socioeconomic issues. I interviewed her for issue 4 of Parallel, and we met up at Waterloo Park in Norwich to snap some images to go alongside her feature.

I'd recently purchased some purple smoke bombs, specifically to use in a photoshoot, so I decided to use them in this. I'd never used smoke bombs before so was curious as to how well they would work. I'm glad that I bought 2 because the first one didn't actually work when we pulled the trigger, so we just had a very very brief 40ish seconds in which to shoot with the second one. Considering there were only seconds available to us, I'm pretty happy with how these images came out!
